The Coniston Estate
The Hotel forms part of the Coniston Estate, which has been home to the Bannister family since the late 1960s. The estate comprises of the magnificent Coniston Hall,which is available for weddings and corporate functions, The Coniston Hotel, Coniston Shooting Ground, Falconry Centre and much more.
After the Bannister's bought the estate they became aware of the need to diversify into areas other than farming. They decided to convert one of the outlying barns in to a farm shop which sold produce from the estate including homemade preserves and fish.
Mrs Bannister and her son Tom were responsible for the farm shop and as today, the whole family was very involved in the every aspect of running the business.
Being located on the A65 trunk road to the Lakes meant that the farm shop very quickly gathered a strong customer base and a tearoom was added to meet growing demand.
Growth and Expansion
More expansion came when the tearoom was converted to a restaurant and then again when the first bedrooms were added and the farm shop made the transition to hotel.
The business has enjoyed steady growth over the years and is now a thriving 50 bedroom hotel which has a great restaurant and many activities for guests to enjoy.
The hotel has a 3-star rating from the AA and has been both nominated and won many different industry awards.
Family Values
At the heart of everything we do are family values. Mr and Mrs Bannister can be seen out and about the hotel and estate every day and their son Tom, who is the hotel's managing director, is often seen serving guests their last drinks in the evening and breakfast in the morning.
