Fishing At The Coniston Country Estate

On the Coniston Hall Lake

We have our own beautiful 24-acre lake which is well stocked with fighting fit Rainbow Trout and also holds a good head of wild Brown Trout.

The fly fishing on the lake is excellent and it is an ideal location for beginners and more experienced anglers alike.

Fly fishing is usually done from one of the estate boats but at certain times of the year fly fishing from the bank can be very good.

The Coniston Hall lake is open for fly fishing from 1st April to 1st October inclusive.

Fishing on the River Aire

Our one mile length of the River Aire provides the river fly fisher with the opportunity for some challenging fly fishing for its wild Brown Trout, some of which are in excess of 2lbs.

The River Aire has excellent hatches of fly and offers good sport to dry fly and nymph tactics.

The River Aire is open for fly fishing from April to September inclusive.

Boats are available for the lake and tuition is available for those wishing to improve their fishing.
Thank you for a good day yesterday (Sunday 28/04/13) Although I only had one fish (the only fish I could see rising all day) it was an exceptional fish, that I was unprepared for. From your web site I thought a 2lb fish would be a fish of the year & 3 or 4 to the pound would be the normal size. The fish I landed was between 6lb & 6.5lb in perfect condition. It was certainly fun on a Grays 6'6" streamflex rod (ATFM 3 ) & 4lb line. It took me 15 minutes to land. Attached is a picture of the fish.

Thanks again

I have just had one of the best days fishing of my life, surprisingly that sentiment was echoed by most of our group.  Myself and seven friends have just spent a day fishing on The Coniston Hall Lake, a beautiful setting, for a day out.  Between us we landed 136 of the hardest fighting rainbows I have experienced, with two perfect browns to put the icing on the cake.  From experience I can say it is not an easy fishery, with natural flies the order of the day, but when the fish are on it is more than worth the trip and highly recommended.

Many Thanks
Rob Hegarty
