Winter Wedding Planning

The nights are drawing in and the weather is getting colder… winter wedding season is nearly upon us! And what a magical time of year it is. While a wedding in the colder months may throw up a few challenges, it also provides the perfect opportunity to get creative. Our winter wedding tips are here to help you plan your dream wedding that goes off without a hitch!

The weather outside is frightful…

No matter what month you chose to get married, our unpredictable British weather can be a challenge. Naturally, a winter wedding could provide the most beautiful, crisp and, dare we say, snowy day… or it could be grey and rainy. As the bride and groom, it’s difficult not to get hung up on what the weather may bring, but to give you peace of mind, there’s plenty you can do to prepare.

A winter wedding at The Coniston Hotel can keep you under one roof; from getting ready in the bridal suite to walking down the aisle at your ceremony and on to your reception, so there is less of concern that adverse weather may prove a problem. But there are still those all-important photographs to think about. You may not wish to choose a winter wedding dress if you are getting married at a venue, however, some winter accessories will be vital for getting those al fresco wedding pictures. A faux fur stole could do the trick to keep you warm and stylish umbrellas may be needed to keep the rain off.

Jack Frost nipping at your nose…

As the temperature drops and Jack Frost begins to nip, chapped lips and dry skin become inevitable so a bit of pre-wedding pampering is vital. Why not book into The Coniston Spa ahead of your big day and enjoy a full day of rest and relaxation, while we get you looking wedding ready. Enjoy a Natura Bisse Citrus Drench Body Scrub and Wrap that will leave your skin feeling silky smooth and combine with one of our Aromatherapy Associates facials which use the finest essential oils to leave your skin feeling restored and reconditioned.

Deck the halls with boughs of holly…

If a Christmas themed wedding is right up your street then you can go all out with your theme and decorations. But if you’d rather leave Christmas for 25th December, then there is still plenty you can do with a winter wedding theme. Be adventurous with your colour palette; deep, luxurious colour palettes can look extremely striking against metallics. Take advantage of the shorter days with lots of soft candlelight to create an ambient atmosphere, both at your ceremony and your reception.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…

One of the most exciting things about a winter wedding is the food! Warm your guests with a twist on the common arrival drinks; we offer winter Pimms or mulled wine to really get your guests into the seasonal spirit. And why not spoil the kids with delicious hot chocolates and various toppings. When it comes to the main event, if a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings is going a bit far then there are still plenty of other winter favourites to leave your guests feeling warm and cosy after their meal. Our team can work with you to come up with the perfect winter feast!
