Supplier Spotlight Blog: The Wright Wine Company
At the end of last year, we put together our first supplier spotlight blog – showcasing The Courtyard Dairy in Settle. Now that Dry January has come to end, for our next supplier spotlight, we felt it only right to showcase the wonderful Wright Wine Company in Skipton.
Lead by Julian Kaye and the team, The Wright Wine Company is a specialist supplier of wines and spirits and have been stocking the cellars here at The Coniston for over 3 years, while Julian has been a close friend to the Bannister family for many more.
Julian has been a part of The Wright Wine Company since 1991 and took over ownership from the late Bob Wright in 2012. The company has remained true to its core principles throughout – to stock great products and offer excellent advice. And this is why we work with them to produce our wine lists, as well as wine pairings in our 2 AA Rosette restaurant Macleod’s.
So, what’s on our wine list?
Our team here at The Coniston have worked with Julian to create a varied selection of wines, ranging from some old favourites to a few unusual choices.
Lewis McClean, our Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, has come up with his all-time favourites from our wine list to showcase some of the best from The Wright Wine Company…
Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, Mount Vernon (2017)
This is a fantastic example of a Marlborough New Zealand Sauvignon and one of our top selling wines by the glass. It has aromatics of passion fruits, herbaceous and citrus notes. This wine is great on its own, however, is it matches perfectly with seafood or a fresh Greek salad in the summer.
Ch. Saintem Grand Cru, Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux (2010)
This wine features in the above video and is currently paired with our fillet steak on our tasting menu in Macleod’s. This wine is a deep ruby red and the aromas are dominated by spices and blackcurrant, while the palate has firm tannins with a rich full body.
Banyuls, M.Chapoutier, Vin Doux Naturel (2014)
Also featuring on the above video, the wine is currently paired with our dark chocolate delice on our tasting menu in Macleod’s. Interestingly, the village in which this wine comes from is twinned with the local town of Settle. It has beautiful aromas of raisins and black cherry and on the palate, it has a very rich flavour of black cherry and strawberry.
