The Coniston Spa & Airedale hospital

It’s the little things that can make a difference if you’re going through cancer treatment, a new complimentary massage treatment service is now being offered to patients of Airedale hospital to help improve their health and wellbeing.

The wellness service for patients with cancer was launched on Monday 02 September thanks to an exciting new partnership between Airedale hospital and The Coniston Spa.

The therapy is the first in the country to be offered on the mobile cancer care unit, the £265k bus which visits sites across the area and which was funded by charity Hope for Tomorrow.  The specially qualified therapists will visit the bus and the day unit at the hospital once a month and offer complimentary 30 minute hand and arm or shoulder and neck massages for patients having treatment.  Patients will be able to book the sessions in advance.

The therapists are trained to use Jennifer Young products which are designed specifically for patients who are having cancer treatment or who have had treatment in the past.  They are all organic, gentle to the skin and have fewer essential oils to help patients who may have nausea symptoms.  Massage has been shown to reduce pain, fatigue and anxiety and improve movement and sleep, all things that are important to patients with cancer.

We are delighted to introduce a specialised menu of therapies to our Spa developed by Jennifer Young, for those living with and beyond cancer.

The charity won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation, in 2016. The Award is the UK’s highest accolade for business success, and was made in recognition of our achievements since the Founder, Christine Mills MBE, set up Hope for Tomorrow in 2003.
